This garden for the home of an art dealer in New York City employs a simple palette to provide a restful outdoor space full of changing light. The wooden latticework, open enough to provide plenty of air circulation through the garden, was designed to integrate the pattern of the stone quoins that were a part of the existing wallThe texture of the latticework was devised to take advantage of this light and space and give a measure of privacy. Flowering crabapple trees, white flowering bulbs emerging from groundcovers, and wisteria vines provide varieties of scale against the massed evergreen boxwood, which is artfully wrapped in winter for protection. An antique fountain was found and incorporated into the design. The Estee Lauder Mansion duplicated (without permission I believe) the latticework design for its own garden, which adjoins at the rear and shares a common side wall.
