Built starting in 1974, the construction uses straightforward carpentry frames covered with canvas walls. Development required the removal of very few trees on the site, and no excavation for foundations. All paths through the site are wooden walks raised above the ground to eliminate erosion and loss of vegetation. After completion of the resort the view to the site from the adjacent waters of Maho Bay was virtually unchanged.

Maho Bay Camps has grown consistently from its start, and Mr. Hadley has remained involved throughout. It is now a world-famous destination.
