The 2 ½ acre site near the bay on Cape Cod features a pond and marsh partly within the boundaries. The rolling landforms and the varied sizes and species of trees create a highly active setting for the house. The property is the subject of a habitat restoration, with an ongoing program to replace invasive plants with native species.

The house is designed as a simple form to contrast with this active natural setting. The palette of materials is restricted to those used throughout Cape Cod in housing - pre-weathered white cedar shingles and white clapboard and trim. The brick of the chimney is painted white, as is often done with older Cape houses.

Inside, the house is organized to capitalize on the natural setting. Window locations have been carefully considered to feature views to certain site elements - the master bedroom balcony, for example, looks out on a large, old English oak and a specimen apple tree that were found on the property.
